Dr. King is an adjunct professor and entrepreneur in residence in the Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University.  He is an affliate research professor at the Human Interface Technology Laboratory of the University of Washington.  He is a fellow at the Advanced Telecommunication Research Institute in Kyoto, Japan, where he served as a visiting scientist in 1994.  He also has conducted research at Hughes Research Laboratories and GTE Tele-communications Research.  Dr. King has served as a consultant to Siemens, Hughes Electronics, Microsoft, Interval Research, Walt Disney Imagineering and Atari Games.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. King is currently completing two books: Toward the Human-Computer Dyad and Notes of a Serial Entrepreneur.  He also is collaborating with the Whidbey Institute on a new program called Apes in Space, a study of ethics and morality in the technologically polarized world of the 21st century.

In 2000, Dr. King established the King Creativity Fund Endowment at Southwestern University, which annually supports "innovative and visionary projects" of enrolled students. The fund supports up to 20 projects in any given academic year with each grant award ranging up to $1,500.  Creative projects can be carried out on Southwestern¹s campus or at another institution or laboratory. Projects from all disciplines are eligible, and multidisciplinary projects are especially encouraged.

Dr. King is a member of the Southwestern University's Board of Trustees.  He also serves as vice chairman of the board of Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, a non-profit endangered wildlife conservation and education facility.  Dr. King also is a member of  the development committee of the Benaroya Research Institute, an organization dedicated to discovering the causes and cures of autoimmune and genetic diseases.
