Previously, she worked in a biochemistry lab doing research into liver diseases. Eric Wivagg '01 Monday, May 08, 2006 Eric Wivagg ’01 cherishes the liberal arts education he received at Southwestern. Although initially attracted to the University’s architecture courses, his adviser, Thomas Howe, professor of art history, persuaded Wivagg to broaden his focus. Wivagg chose to major in communication studies and feels that his education prepared him for his latest challenge, designing a house for an episode of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” which aired Jan. 29, 2006. Margaret Blair Fitzgerald '01 Wednesday, January 25, 2006 The values of a liberal arts education continue to play a major role in Margaret Blair Fitzgerald’s ’01 life. Joanne Chiang '01 Thursday, November 10, 2005 Joanne Chiang grew up in the Dallas suburb of Richardson. She chose Southwestern because of its pre-med program and relatively close location to home. It was here that she discovered her true academic niche. Chiang earned a B.A. in communication studies with a minor in biology and has gone on to blaze her own trail in network broadcasting.
