2005 Austin/CenTx Day of Service at Marbridge Foundation a Success
By John Kotarski '93
On Saturday, June 4, 2005, several Austin-area alumni participated in the 2005 Austin/Central Texas Day of Service at the Marbridge Foundation in Manchaca, Texas. Marbridge offers individualized residential care, education and training to adults with various cognitive challenges. Their 300-acre working ranch provides a safe, loving home for adults with special needs. The Marbridge Garden Center --where our alumni groups worked -- serves the Austin area with products from their 50,000 square feet of covered growing areas. Marbridge residents help to care for all of their plants, and all profits from the Garden Center are used to provide financial assistance for those Marbridge residents that may not otherwise be able to afford Marbridge's programs.
The SU group (which included 14 alumni, 3 kids) painted the Marbridge public restrooms and weeded six flower beds, collecting almost 500 pounds of weeds in only seven hours! Our 2005 participants: were Yen Hong-Tran '00, Robert & Jennifer Wallis '00, Elise Eustace '94, David McClellan '97, Stephanie Molnar '92, Joe & Darien Wilson '92 (with children, Zoe Love and Clark), Maria Kruger-Seiler '91 (with child, Isabella), Amber Morena '99, Barry Patton '92, Sharon Wilson Brown & Brian Brown '03, John Kotarski '93 and JoAnn Lucero, assistant director of alumni relations.
