Alumni Self-Study Commission Commences Work
This summer President Jake B. Schrum appointed a commission of alumni to conduct an intensive review of Southwestern's alumni programs. In early September, the 15-member commission came to campus where they held their inaugural meeting. The commission will continue to meet during the next two months and conclude their work in November with a report of recommendations to Southwestern's Board of Trustees. The commission is chaired by Larry Haynes '72 and is composed of Lee Christie '84, Scott Clearman '85, Sandra Romero de Thompson '90, Ned Dismukes '74, Robert Dupuy '69, Michael Lade '88, Cullen Clark Lutz '92, John Ozmun '67, David Simmons '70, Nia Tavoularis '98, Gail Rivers Beard '72, Jamye Whatley Pressley '55, Jack Phelps '71, and Richard Anderson, Vice President for Fiscal Affairs, Southwestern University.
The charge of the commission is to accomplish the following:
Review Southwestern University's alumni programs, communications, and leadership development;
Identify all facets of the relationship between the University and its alumni;
Find and visit model alumni programs among national liberal arts colleges and determine if any of those programs could be adapted for Southwestern;
Invite leaders of these "best practice" programs to visit SU and critique Southwestern's alumni activities; and
Present recommendations for alumni programming to the Board of Trustees that match the aspirations for the University.
