Submit Your Southwestern Story
Did studying abroad, researching with a professor, or participating in a community service project enhance your Southwestern education? Long before Southwestern formally introduced the Paideia Program, Southwestern students were having Paideia-like experiences. In fact, the program was built around educational experiences that generations of Southwestern students found most enriching. The next issue of
Southwestern@Georgetown magazine will highlight the experiences of Southwestern's Paideia Scholars. The Paideia Program engages students in learning by building a culture of connections and reflections, intentional learning, and by integrating in-class and out-of-class academic and non-academic experiences. The program has five strands, including a strong, rigorous academic program, intercultural experiences, collaborative/guided research & creative works, leadership, and service-learning opportunities. Through the six semesters of the program, students continue to gain insight into these five areas. Many alumni identify with current Paideia Scholars' experiences. Please e-mail
radisonm@southwestern.edu with your "Paideia" experience. Select stories will be published in the next issue of
Southwestern@Georgetown magazine. To read more about the Paideia Program, visit

CAMPUS HIGHLIGHTS
Students Return for 2005-2006 Academic Year
It is that time of year again. New and returning students arrived on campus for the first day of classes, August 29. Southwestern is excited to welcome 374 new students to campus for 2005! This year, Southwestern introduces living-learning communities to first-year student programming. Living-learning communities are designed to increase opportunities for first-year students to more easily connect their in-class and out-of-class academic and non-academic experience. The aim is to extend the
First-Year Seminar beyond the walls of the typical classroom setting. Faculty teaching in the First-Year Seminar living-learning communities may use the residence hall environment as a forum for activities, such as movies, debates, class meetings, and social gatherings. To read more about SU's new living-learning communities, visit
