Have you shared your Southwestern story? If not, then you are in luck! The submission deadline has been extended until
Friday, Sept. 22. Stories will be released in various ways surrounding Homecoming and Reunion Weekend. All accepted submissions will be printed in a booklet to be offered during Homecoming. Selected stories will be highlighted on the
ASUA Web site. And ... the "Top Five Stories" will be selected for publication in the
Southwestern@Georgetown magazine.

Harold Burkhardt ’49 is working on a project to produce a CD of Southwestern's A Cappela Choir and Men's chorus music which he recorded in 1947- 49 on a 78 rpm disc recorder. Help Decorate for Homecoming!
In spirit of the Homecoming and Reunion Weekend theme "The Story of Southwestern," the University is collecting books to be used as decorations for the Homecoming Picnic, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 4. After Homecoming, all books collected will be given to an area non-profit organization. Donate your books (for all ages) today! Currently, the Office of Alumni Relations (
Second Floor, Roy and Lillie Cullen Building) serves as the book collection headquarters. Are you traveling from out of town? Then, bring your books with you for Homecoming and Reunion Weekend. A book collection box will be placed at the Alumni Hospitality House (

Registration for Jameson 5K Available Online
Runners, walkers and supporters of the Jaysn Jameson Memorial Scholarship can now register for the 6th annual Jameson 5K race by clicking here. The 5K race is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 4, at 8 a.m. and begins at the Corbin J. Robertson Center at Southwestern University. Early registration costs $15 for the general public and $10 for students and participants over the age of 55. Late registration (after Oct. 27) creates an additional $5 charge. Come enjoy a fun, friendly 5K run/walk through and around Southwestern and Georgetown. There is also a 1-mile Mosey limited to the campus area. Alumni runners and walkers won't want to miss this annual Homecoming and Reunion Weekend event!

Participate in the Homecoming Alumni Ring Ceremony
Southwestern adopted its popular signet ring, bearing the University Seal, as the Official Alumni Ring so that generations of graduates may be recognized through a symbol that signals rigorous academics and a rich community life. During Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, alumni may receive their ring from
President Jake B. Schrum ’68 during the Alumni Ring Ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at 10 a.m. in the Lois Perkins Chapel.

Homecoming Alumni Hospitality House
Looking for the perfect place to meet up with your closest Southwestern friends? This year, the Alumni Council is sponsoring an Alumni Hospitality House throughout Homecoming, Nov. 3-5, 2006. Located directly across the street from the Roy and Lillie Cullen (Ad) Building, in the San Gabriel House Bed and Breakfast, the Hospitality House will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday so that you have a place to meet your old friends and make new ones. Further details will be provided in your Homecoming and Reunion Weekend invitation.

Chris Campbell: Recent Work Ceramics Exhibit
The Art Department welcomes alumni to visit Chris Campbell: Recent Work, a ceramics exhibit. This exhibit will be on display through Oct. 13, in the Fine Arts Gallery of The Alma Thomas Fine Arts Center. (Hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 2-5 p.m.)
A. Frank Smith, Jr. Lecture
Hillard Pouncy, from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University, will present "It's Hard Out Here in the Mainstream: Connecting Less Well-Educated Young Black Males to Mainstream Opportunities." Pouncy is a well published author on public policy and the African-American community. His lecture is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m. in the Julie Puett Howry Center.
"Gender and Worship" Lecture Series
Canterbury at Southwestern invites alumni to attend, "Gender and Worship: Exploring the role of gender in our journey to knowing God." Speakers will include specialists on the topic of spirituality and gender, one being Janet Davis, author of The Feminine Soul. Other speakers will include members of the Southwestern community. This lecture series is scheduled for Oct. 6-7, 2006. Friday evening activities will begin at 6 p.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church (1314 E. University Ave., Georgetown). Saturday activities begin at the Lois Perkins Chapel at 9 a.m. The weekend is free of charge and includes a Friday dinner and Saturday lunch. Please RSVP to GenderandWorship@yahoo.com. Peace Conference 2006
The 2006 Peace Conference, "Making Multi-faith Connections in the Practice of Peace and Non-Violence," is scheduled to take place Oct. 11-12, 2006. The weekend will include an art show directed towards issues of peace and non-violence, a guest peace artist concert, workshops and panels. The grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, Arun Gandhi, will present "Lessons from Grandfather in Peace and Social Justice," Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Lois Perkins Chapel. Wyclef to Perform at Southwestern University
Grammy award-winning singer
Wyclef Jean will be the featured performer at a concert to be held at Southwestern University Sept. 21. Wyclef's hit singles include "Fu-Gee-La," "Killing Me Softly with His Song," "We Trying to Stay Alive" and "Gone Till November." His most recent hit song with Shakira, "Hips Don't Lie," received Best Choreography in a Video in the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in the Corbin J. Robertson Center. Opening act for the concert will be
Overlord, who has been named Austin hip-hop artist of the year eight times. Tickets for the concert are $15 for the general public and will be available online at

Library Receives Engleman World Peace and Non-violence Collection
The A. Frank Smith, Jr. Library Center has received a large collection from the late Vance Engleman related to world peace and non-violence. The Engleman World Peace and Non-violence Collection includes the 100-volume Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi as well as more than 100 additional printed and audiovisual works about Gandhi's life and nonviolent practices, and the work of Martin Luther King Jr. and Mother Teresa. The collection also contains 20 pieces of artwork, including busts of Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr. and Mother Teresa.

Southwestern and Round Rock High Schools Partner on Unique Theatre Project
A California theater company, Fringe Benefits, is using a grant it has received to bring a Theatre for Social Justice Institute program titled "Race and High School Students" to Williamson County. The project will begin with a series of five workshops that will be held evenings during the week of Sept. 12-19, at McNeil High School in Round Rock. At these workshops, representatives from Fringe Benefits will listen to students from Round Rock high schools describe real discrimination problems at their school. They then will work with the students to create a play based on the incidents described. The play will be performed in several Williamson County locations next April, with students from Southwestern University and Round Rock high schools serving as the actors.
