The Office of Alumni and Parent Relations welcomes alumni interest in supporting and connecting with Southwestern University. There are many opportunities for alumni to get involved, from new student recruitment, to reunion planning, to fundraising, to community service and much more.
Here are 40 ways you can support Southwestern and keep connected:
- Register for the online alumni directory and update your information regularly.
- Check the Alumni Calendar frequently to learn about upcoming events.
- Visit campus to see what’s new or take the virtual tour.
- Get your Pirate ID Card.
- Attend Homecoming and Reunion Weekend and encourage friends to come.
- Help plan your next class reunion.
- Get connected with the Local Association in your area.
- Join an Alumni Connection Group or form one of your own.
- Attend a Candlelight Service for the Season of Advent in your area.
- Participate in a Day of Service or coordinate one in your hometown.
- Recommend alumni for the Alumni Council.
- Submit nominations for alumni awards.
- Make a gift to the Southwestern Fund and see if your employer will match your gift.
- Help call alumni during Phonathon and encourage your friends to give.
- Help locate “lost” alumni.
- Wear Southwestern University apparel, put a University bumper sticker on your car or display Southwestern paraphernalia in your work space.
- Encourage a prospective student to consider Southwestern University.
- Register your child(ren) for the Legacy Link Program.
- Write welcome notes to incoming students from your town.
- Represent Southwestern University at college fairs and call prospective students in your region as an AREA (Admission Recruiting Effort by Alumni) Volunteer.
- Recommend a high school student to the Admission Office.
- Drop off a Southwestern University information packet to a high school counselor in your area.
- Read Southwestern, the University magazine.
- Submit a Class Note for The Association Web site and Southwestern magazine.
- Contact Career Services with job opportunities in your profession.
- Arrange a student internship opportunity at your workplace.
- Contact Career Services to access their resources for alumni.
- Provide career mentoring and networking opportunities for students by participating in SU Connections events.
- Audit a class by submitting a visiting student application.
- Request a free transcript.
- Utilize the A. Frank Smith, Jr. Library Center.
- Attend or host a Road Scholars presentation in your area.
- Meet new faculty and reminisce with favorites.
- See a performance or gallery exhibit at the Sarofim School of Fine Arts.
- Attend a Pirates athletic event.
- Use the athletic facilities at the Corbin J. Robertson Center.
- Attend the Brown Symposium, Fleming Lecture in Religion, Roy and Margaret Shilling Lecture, Writer’s Voice and other cultural activities and special programs.
- Fund a scholarship in honor of someone.
- Include Southwestern University in your estate planning.
- Reserve your complimentary copy of To Survive and Excel: The Story of Southwestern University, 1840-2000 by Dr. William B. Jones, professor emeritus of history and Southwestern University historian.
